LAURINBURG — One week into the high school football regular season and Scotland sophomore running back Zamir White is already garnering national headlines.

The 6-foot-1, 205-pounder was named the U.S. Army All-American Player of the Week after accumulating 276 yards from scrimmage and three total touchdowns in the Scots’ 47-25 victory against South View last Friday.

The honor, which is announced each Monday throughout the season, is awarded as recognition of the nation’s top high school performance of the week.

White rushed for 252 yards and two touchdowns in the win over the Tigers, nearly breaking the 200-yard mark before halftime. He also reeled in two passes for 24 yards, scoring on a 14-yard reception from quarterback Sergio Gibson on 4th-and-13 in the second quarter to put the Scots up 27-12.

The second-year star sat the rest of the contest after rushing for a 14-yard touchdown during the early stages of the third quarter.

247sports.com, one of the leading websites in high school basketball and football recruiting, recently slotted White No. 2 in its top 100 for the class of 2018. He is listed as the No. 1 overall player in North Carolina, and is one of only two recruits in the country bestowed with a five-star recruiting grade. Trevor Lawrence, a pro-style quarterback who attends Cartersville High School in Georgia, sits atop 247’s rankings.

Despite being just a sophomore, White already holds more than a dozen scholarship tenders from programs across the country. According to 247, Clemson, Duke, East Carolina, Florida State, Georgia, NC State, North Carolina, Ohio State, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia Tech and Wisconsin have all offered him.

In July White accepted an invitation to play in the 2018 U.S. Army All-American Bowl, which is considered one of the top high school football showcases in the country. The game is held in San Antonio, Texas, which White will participate in when he is a senior.
