LAURINBURG — The Lady Scots soccer team earned the No. 7 seed in the Sandhills Athletic Conference tournament, after a double-overtime tie and a 3-0 loss to Lumberton to end their season.

The Lady Scots wrapped up their 2018 season with back-to-back games against Lumberton. The two teams were originally scheduled to meet in March and on Monday of last week. Both of those games were rained out, so on April 26 the Lady Scots traveled to Lumberton and earned a 2-2 tie with the Lady Pirates in double overtime.

On Friday, the teams met in Laurinburg for Senior Night and the Lady Scots fell 3-0 to end the season with an overall record of 2-13-3 and a 2-10-2 conference record. The Lady Pirates finished the season 8-9-2 overall and 5-7-2 in SAC-8 play.

The record earned the Lady Scots the No. 7 seed in the SAC-8 conference tournament which begins tonight at 7 p.m. Scotland will travel to Hope Mills to take on No. 2 Jack Britt (11-3). In their two previous meetings, the Lady Scots lost to Jack Britt. In their second game of the season the Lady Buccaneers beat the Lady Scots, 7-0. The first round of the tournament will see No. 6 Hoke (3-9-2) travel to Rockingham to take on No. 3 Richmond (11-3). On the other side of the bracket, No. 8 Seventy-First (0-14) will meet No. 1 Pinecrest (14-0) in Southern Pines while No. 5 Lumberton (5-7-2) will travel to No. 4 Purnell Swett (7-7).

The winners will play on Wednesday at 7 p.m. with the higher seeded team hosting. The winner of Hoke/Richmond will play the winner of Scotland/Jack Britt while the winner of Lumberton/Purnell Swett will take on the winner of Seventy-First/Pinecrest.

The Sandhills Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer Championship will be held on Friday, May 7 at 7 p.m. with the higher seeded team hosting.
