LAURINBURG — April showers are causing quite a bit of shuffling in this week’s Scotland High School athletics schedule. Being the final week of the regular season, baseball, soccer and softball were scheduled to have their Senior Night festivities. Tennis and track are also slated to compete in their conference tournaments.
Baseball and softball’s home game tonight against Richmond, which was Senior Night for both teams, has been moved to Wednesday at 7 p.m. The teams will then travel to Rockingham on Friday to close out their regular seasons.
The baseball and softball teams will compete in their conference tournaments next week, weather permitting. All conference tournaments must be finished on May 5 according to the NCHSAA to allow time for seeding for playoffs which begins on April 7.
The Lady Scots soccer team was scheduled to host Lumberton on Monday for Senior Night, that game has been moved to Friday, April 27 at 7 p.m. The Lady Scots are on the road on Wednesday taking on Richmond also at 7 p.m.
The NCHSAA reporting deadline for soccer is May 5 as well.
The Fighting Scots tennis team was scheduled to compete in the Sandhills Athletic Conference tournament on Monday in Lumberton. Due to the rain, the SAC-8 tennis tournament will now be played on Wednesday, April 25 and Thursday, April 26 beginning at 11 a.m.
The NCHSAA reporting deadline for the dual team tournament this year is April 30 with round one beginning on May 2. The Fighting Scots qualified for this year’s dual team tournament after finishing second in the conference behind Pinecrest.
The Scotland High School track team will compete in the Sandhills Athletic Conference meet on Friday, April 27 at 9 a.m. The meet was originally scheduled to be held on Saturday afternoon, but the conference decided to change the meet and hold it one day earlier.
If the inclement weather continues games will have to be made up in order to accommodate the conference tournaments that will begin next week.
Track regionals will be held on May 12. Scotland will compete in the 4A Midwest regional which will be held at Pinecrest High School in Southern Pines.
