PEMBROKE — The University of North Carolina at Pembroke will toast Dan Kenney at the athletic department’s sixth annual Cash Bash presented by Scotland Health.

Kenney, the longtime UNCP men’s basketball coach and atheltic director, will be the celebrity guest for the event. The veteran coach will be honored for being the longest-tenured basketball head coaches and athletics directors in the history of the department.

During his tenure, Kenney compiled 124 victory as UNCP’s men’s basketball coach from 1985-92 and served as the skipper of the department from 1998-2013.

“For 43 years, Dan Kenney has led by example,” said UNCP director of athletics Dick Christy. “UNC Pembroke was blessed that over 30 of those years were dedicated to the Braves in various capacities. “Every day I get to see how impactful his leadership in athletics was. So many values that he instilled and people that he hired are the foundation of what brings us success today. His legacy won’t be fully appreciated for years to come but I know many of our coaches and hundreds of our former athletes are forever indebted to him for his kindness, wisdom, and mentorship.”

The event will be held inside the English E. Jones Center on Friday, April 20. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. along with the silent auction.

Cash Bash is one of the department’s premier fundraising events that benefits the Braves Club scholarship fund. Proceeds from the event support all 16 varsity athletics programs, as well as nearly 400 student-athletes.

“Cash Bash has become a signature event for our programs and is something that we hope will springboard our fundraising events into the future,” Christy said. “It is a great chance for current and prospective donors to get involved, have fun and meet some of our coaches, staff and student-athletes.”

Tables for the event can be purchased for $1,000 and feature priority seating for eight, dinner with a coach or student-athletes, video board signage, individual or business listing and a raffle entry for each guest. Individual tickets can be purchased for $125.

The event will feature entertainment, live and silent auctions and a catered meal with an open bar.

Some of the featured auction items include: two premium tickets to UNC-Chapel Hill’s basketball matchup with NC State next season inside the Dean E. Smith Center; VIP experiences to a select NC State basketball and football game during the 2018-19 season; tickets to the NASCAR Coca-Cola 600; the NASCAR Monster Energy All-Star Race; and tickets to the practice round for the 2019 Masters at Augusta National Golf Club.
