LAURINBURG — The Scotland High School track teams the fourth Sandhills Athletic Conference meet on Wednesday at Pate Stadium.

With home field advantage, the Fighting Scots won the boy’s side with 121 team points. Pinecrest took second with 65, Purnell Swett finished in third with 39 and Lumberton rounded out the field with 26 team points.

The Lady Scots took second place in the team standings with 66 points. Pinecrest won the girl’s side with 135 points. Lumberton finished in third place with 12 points while Purnell Swett earned fourth with nine points.

FIGHTING SCOTS

The Scots took first place in nine of the 17 scored events: triple jump, shot put, discus, long jump, 4×400 meter relay, 200-meter dash, 400-meter dash, 4×100 meter relay and the 4×200 meter relay.

The team followed up their nine victories with nine second place finishes — double dipping in some of the events taking first and second place.

In the running events, the Fighting Scots 4×200 meter relay teams took first and second place in the event with the A team winning with a time of 1:33 and the B team taking second with a time of 1:37.

In the 4×100 meter relay team the Scots kept their win streak alive with a second straight victory in the event posting a winning time of 43.1 seconds. The Scots B team took third place with a time of 46.8 seconds.

The 4×400 meter relay team picked up its first win with a time of 3:40.

Freshman Zymere Reddick won the 400-meter dash with a time of 52.2 seconds. In the field events, Reddick took second in the high jump with a jump of 5 feet, 8 inches while teammates Mohomed Kaba and Kris McLean took third and fourth respectively. Kaba posted a jump of 5 feet, 6 inches and McLean jumped 5 feet, 4 inches.

Senior Laron Quick topped the standings in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.4 seconds beating out freshman Tyrell Thomas by 0.6 seconds.

In the field events, sophomore Jumarius McLean ousted senior Brenton Thomas in the triple jump. McLean won the event with a jump of 44 feet, 4.05 inches while Thomas took second with a jump of 43 feet, 2 inches.

Thomas retained his throne in the long jump with a jump of 21 feet, 7 inches while McLean took fourth with a jump of 18 feet, 9 inches.

Seniors Tyler Smith and T.J. Smith won the discus and shot put events. Tyler Smith won the discus with a throw of 122 feet. The Scots nearly swept the discus throw as Kaba, sophomore Blake Brigman and senior Anthony Butler took third, fourth and fifth respectively.

T.J. Smith won the shot put with a throw of 41 feet, 5 inches. Tyler took third in the shot put with a throw of 39 feet, 10 inches.

The 4×800 meter relay team finished second with a time of 10:05.

Sophomore Deandre McKinnon finished second in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 18.7 seconds finishing just ahead of teammate freshman Chris Brown, who took third, with a time of 19.1 seconds. McKinnon took third in the slightly longer 300 meter hurdles to pace the Scots with a time of 46.5 seconds. The Scots sophomore also had a third place finish in the long jump with a jump of 19 feet, 1.05 inches.

Junior Tyshawn Thomas took second in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.1 seconds, as he was just beat out by Lumberton’s Jalen Whitted who won the event with a time of 11.0 seconds.

The 1600-meter run saw Scots sophomore Tony Strickland take second place with a time of 5:05. Strickland also took second place in the 3200 meter run with a time of 11:29 — 10 seconds off the winning time posted by Pinecrest’s Spencer Lykins.

LADY SCOTS

The Lady Scots won three events and five second place finishes.

Sophomore Ziaya Edwards won the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.7 seconds beating out teammate Kayla Kirkley by 0.2 seconds. Kirkley took second with a time of 12.9, the Lady Scots junior also took second in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 18.6 seconds.

The Lady Scots 4×100 meter relay team dominated with a winning time of 51.8 seconds to beat out Pinecrest, who posted a second-place time of 53.1 seconds.

Freshman Sanya Lacue was the third victory for the Lady Scots in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 56.9 seconds.

The Lady Scots 4×400 meter relay team and the 4×800 meter both took third in their respective races.

In the field events, senior Jazmine Williams finished second in the triple jump with a jump of 30 feet, 4.05 inches. Kirkley took second in the long jump with a mark of 15 feet, 9 inches. Teammates Miya Harrington, Williams and Shanice Thompson finished third, fourth and fifth to nearly sweep the event.

Senior Tykeria McNair took third in the shot put with a throw of 29 feet to pace the Lady Scots in the event. The discus throw saw senior Daizha McMillon take third place with a throw of 70 feet, 3 inches.

The Scotland High School track teams have next week off because of the spring break and will be back in action on April 12 in Jack Britt for their second to last regular season meet. Events begin at 4 p.m.
