Mid-South Conference pre-season football coaches’ poll

COLUMBIA, Ky. — Lindsey Wilson College, Reinhardt University and Southeastern University are the favorites to capture their divisions according to the Mid-South Conference Football pre-season coaches’ poll, which was released earlier this week.

The Mid-South begins its first season with three divisions on the heels of this past summer’s expansion. Twenty football teams now call the Mid-South home — the largest conference in all of collegiate football.

Lindsey Wilson, out of Kentucky, and Reinhardt, of Georgia, each received 36 voting points from the coaches within their seven-team divisions while Southeastern University, of Florida, received 24 points within its six-team division to headline the preseason poll.

Coaches voted only within their division and were not allowed to vote for their own team in the poll.

Appalachian Division

Reinhardt University received six of the seven first-place votes to sit atop the Appalachian Division poll. The Eagles reached the NAIA Football Championship Series semifinals in 2016 en route to a 13-1 record. Reinhardt won the MSC West in 2016.

University of Pikeville, out of Kentucky, is second in the Appalachian preseason poll with 29 voting points followed by University of the Cumberlands, of Kentucky, with 23 points. Pikeville — received the final first-place vote — shared the MSC East Division title last season with a 5-1 divisional record.

Point University, of Georgia, and Union College, of Kentucky, are tied for fourth in the poll with 20 points followed by Bluefield College, of Virginia, with 13 points and first-year program St. Andrews with six points.

Bluegrass Division

Lindsey Wilson College, of Kentucky, picked up six of the seven first-place votes in the Bluegrass Division poll. The Blue Raiders reached the NAIA Football Championship Series quarterfinals a season ago. Lindsey Wilson ended 2016 with an 11-2 overall record, including going 4-1 in the MSC West.

Georgetown University, out of Kentucky, is second in the Bluegrass with 30 voting points, including the final first-place vote. The Tigers shared the MSC East Division last season with Pikeville with a 5-1 divisional record.

Bethel University, of Tennessee, is third in the poll with 24 points followed by Campbellsville University, of Kentucky, with 21 points. Cumberland University, of Tennessee, garnered 19 points for fifth in the poll while Kentucky Christian University and Cincinnati Christian University, of Ohio, complete the poll with 11 and six voting points, respectively.
