LAURINBURG — The Exteriors “R” Us 2017 Area Championship of Scotland County celebrated its 32nd year this past weekend.
The 57 golfers that participated in the storied tournament were treated to a beautiful weekend, with low humidity and a steady breeze — perfect golfing weather.
The two-day championship teed off Saturday at Scotch Meadows in Laurinburg and concluded on Sunday at Deercroft in Wagram.
Players will be divided into three divisions — open, senior, super senior. The open division was for all golfers while the senior division was for golfers age 50 and older and the super senior division was for golfers age 70 and older.
The length of play varied based on the divisions — open played approximately 6,400 yards between the two courses while the senior division played 5,800 yards and the super senior division played 5,200.
Open Division
Tournament regular Will Morgan was the open division winner shooting a two-round 139. Morgan shot a 72 at Scotch Meadows and followed that up with a 67 at Deercroft. The open division runner up was Will Carter with a 146 with a day-one 72 and a day-one 74.
Just one stroke behind Carter, Joel Hartwell took third place in the open division shooting a 147. Hartwell shot a respectable 73, 74 for the tournament.
Senior Division
The senior division crown went to Dan Starkey, who shot a 152. Starkey shot a 74 at Scotch Meadows and a 78 at Deercroft to capture his title.
Calvin Hammonds took second place with a 156 after shooting a first day 72 and a second day 84. Hammonds was leading the senior division after the first round of the tournament, by two strokes over Starkey. Third place went to David Randall who shot a 159 — a round one 81 and a round two 78.
Super Senior
Terry Graves won the super senior division shooting a 156. Graves shot a 73 at Scotch Meadows before shooting an 83 at Deercroft to win his division.
