LAURINBURG — St. Andrews will host swim camps and summer swim lessons at O’Herron Pool starting next month.

Taylor Cooper and his staff from Coop Swim will be in charge of the classes, which are split into three summer sessions with the first session starting on June 5.

Participants can choose from morning or evening classes — the morning classes are held on Tuesdays, Wednesday and Thursdays beginning at 10 a.m. while the evening classes are held on Mondays and Wednesdays at 6:45 p.m.

The evening summer sessions consist of six classes over four weeks, the first session begins on June 5 and ends June 21; the second session begins on June 26 and ends on July 19.

The morning classes consist of six classes over two weeks with the basic beginner, for children ages three and up who are not proficient in the water. The basic beginner class focuses on teaching children strong kicks, entering the water feet first, forward strokes, and back floats. The basic beginner class is held on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 10 to 10:30 a.m.

The advanced beginner class, which is held from 10 to 10:35 a.m. is for children ages three and up that are comfortable in the water and can be in the water without assistance. This class will focus on helping children work on breathing techniques and basic swim strokes.

The intermediate class is for children ages three and up that are comfortable in the water and have a strong kick. This class is held from 10 to 10:45 a.m. and will focus on teaching kids to coordinate their breathing and kicking with arm movements.

Cooper and his staff will also be offering Mommy and Me classes for parents, dads are welcome to participate, and children ages two and under on Wednesday evenings starting on June 14. The class will focus on getting babies comfortable with the water and giving parents a chance to bond with their children.
