LAURINBURG — The two Fighting Scots golfers that advanced to the 4A East Regional tournament saw their seasons come to an end on Tuesday.

Sophomores Nick Thompson and Mason High qualified for the regional tournament as individuals after finishing 14th and 15th overall in the Southeastern conference. The two played two eight-hole rounds at Anderson Creek Club in Spring Lake on Monday and Tuesday.

High shot a first round 48 and Thompson shot a first round 46. High managed to take four strokes off his score on the back nine holes to shot a 44 for an overall 92, which landed him in 40th place overall.

Thompson struggled on the back nine shooting a 55 to finish his tournament run with a 101 to finish in 56th place out of 60 golfers.

The three other individual qualifiers from the SEC were Hoke’s Cameron Inman, Lumberton’s Tomahawk Bowen and Richmond’s Tucker DeBerry. Inman finished with a 93 (49, 44) to end in a four-way tie for 41st. Bowen finished with a 93 also shooting a 47 and 46 to be part of the four-way tie for 41st. DeBerry shot a 97 (49, 48) to finish in a tie for 50th overall.

Pinecrest and Purnell Swett were the two teams that qualified for the 4A East Regional as a team. Pinecrest won the 4A East with a team score of 308 and Purnell finished eighth shooting a 373.

The Patriots will advance to next week’s 4A state championship and return to part of their home course — Pinehurst No. 6.
