Cooper exceeded his authority, took advantage of executive powers

Gov. Cooper has issued numerous executive orders to the citizens of North Carolina during this Wuhan Virus pandemic. We have seen some counties in NC that are “hot spots” for the virus while many counties have not been as badly affected.

Cooper’s orders treat all counties with the same restrictions. Mecklenburg County has been our hardest-hit county in NC with over 2,000 positive cases and this county should be under strict restrictions to control the spread of this deadly virus. There are many other counties across the state that have 50 or less cases.

Why is Gov. Cooper forcing these counties to have the same restrictions as Mecklenburg and Wake Counties that have more serious problems with the virus? Our Governor must feel everyone should suffer the same restrictions even if another county has few cases and few deaths.

I believe Gov. Cooper has mismanaged his authority in handling this virus by treating all counties as if they are Mecklenburg County.

Cooper has disregarded the Constitution. At least one Constitutional Right has been taken from us. Our Freedom of Religion has been seized from us. Our churches are closed. With all the new Executive Orders, we still cannot go into our churches to worship our God, even if churches establish social distancing guidelines. Governor Cooper must believe malls or retail stores are safer than a church! If government can take away our First Amendment Rights, will the Second Amendment Rights be next?

Gov. Cooper has established “essential businesses” and “unessential businesses”. Unessential businesses were to remain closed. Strange that Wal Mart and Target have been able to remain open, yet small businesses that sell some of the same products had to close because they were deemed unessential.

Small businesses will probably have a harder time re-starting because they do not have the money and they have to hire their employees back versus the larger businesses. The small businesses usually have a more prolonged start-up than the big businesses. It appears that rural NC will have a slower business recovery than the metropolitan areas just like during the Great Recession.

One can only wonder if these restrictions Gov. Cooper instituted were political. This is an election year and Roy is running for re-election. I believe Cooper exceeded his authority and took advantage of his executive powers during this crisis.
