To the editor:

What a great 2015 football season you guys have given the fans of Scotland County once again.

I just wanted to personally take this time to thank you for allowing us to share in your joy under the lights on Friday nights and to salute one of the best teams in the state of North Carolina as well as some of the best players just to name a few: Dashaun Ferguson, Wells Graham, Randy Leak, Jonathon Smith, Willie Douglas, Bryson Patterson, Tim Williams, Jalen Poole, Zamir (sophomore sensation) White and the list goes on. Again, I salute you.

The team is graduating about 25-plus players, but the returning players and what is coming up from the JV team, the stars continue to shine bright for the home team. This road of excellence began with the 2011 team and what a great snow ball affect it has become. These teams grabbed my attention with not just their athletic abilities and impressive on field play, but their true walk of faith with our Lord and Savior. I would look forward to Friday nights to just see what scriptures would be quoted on the banner. Win or lose, seeing the team run through that banner gave me a sense of pride that those young men were already winning in the journey of life because they knew whom they belong. One player that automatically comes to mind in Jaylend Ratliffe, who is a praying warrior and I wish that young man much life success and God’s speed. They may have removed prayer out of the schools and not allow scripture to be made visible, but one thing I know that cannot be removed is what you carry in your heart. Scotland football program, please continue what the 2011 team started in allowing God to lead, guide and order your steps. That gentlemen, is always the unfinished business.

What you guys may not realize is that you all have assisted in drawing the community of Scotland County closer. No matter where you may be, in Walmart, Food Lion, barbershop or hair salon what we all share in common is a friendly conversation for the love and support we all share for the young men and coaches that are a part of this prestigious program.

We are the Fighting Scots!

Go Scots!
