LAUREL HILL — Lawrence “Earl” Ward , age 79 of Laurel Hill passed away July 2, 2015.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Laurel Hill Baptist Church, officiated by Pastor Don Malpass. A private interment will be held at a later date.
Earl was born July 28, 1935, a son of the late Tony Samuel Ward and Mary Jane McFayden Ward. He entered the United States Army in 1954, the Army Reserves in 1956 and was recalled to active duty in 1961 due to the building of the Berlin Wall. After his Honorable Discharge, he worked in textiles with Dixiana Mills and Fieldcrest Mills. He then began his career with the Water Plant and retired March 1, 2015 after many years of service with the city of Laurinburg. Earl served as a longtime faithful member of the Laurel Hill Baptist Church. He loved fishing, camping, cooking, gospel music and he was an avid reader and outdoorsman. His favorite times were those spent with his family.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Duncan Dupre Ward, and sisters Lillian E. Ward and Dorothy Ward Clark.
He is survived by his wife, Margie Woodell Ward of their home in Laurel Hill; his son, Christopher “Chris” Ward and wife Robin of Camden, South Carolina; a brother, James A. Ward of Laurinburg; his grandchildren, Brittany Klus and Hunter Ward, and great-grandchildren Taylor Klus and Matthew Ward.
Visitation will be from 2-2:30 p.m. prior to the service Sunday at Laurel Hill Baptist Church.
