To the editor:

I’m writing this letter in reference to the “Barrett Building” named after my father, William Charles Barrett.

The building/City Hall was named after him because of his many years of service to the community. My dad loved Laurinburg and wanted nothing but the best for his town and the people in it. He always had a positive attitude and an ability to communicate the city’s vision to others. I know that he was Laurinburg’s finest ambassador.

That being said, he never lived in the house and it has no connection to our family. I understand that it is to be demolished to make way for the new City Hall. I’m sure he would see this as an improvement for the city and an investment for the future. He was always looking ahead.
