BENNETTSVILLE — The husband and wife medical team of Dr. Haynes Cain and Nurse Practitioner Gail Cain are once again working together with the addition of Dr. Cain to Marlboro Family Practice & Urgent Care, formerly Scotland Health Care Center.
Originally from Dillon, South Carolina, Cain began his medical career in private practice in Bennettsville in 1989. In 2000, Dr. Cain’s wife, Gail Cain joined him in that practice. In 2003, the couple together joined CareSouth, a federally-qualified community health plan, where they worked until Mrs. Cain joined Scotland Health Care Center this past May.
Cain said he is excited about returning to the private health care sector and to once again practice acute care medicine with his wife Gail, especially at Scotland Health Care System’s new multi-specialty medical complex.
”It will be quite exciting to be in the new Marlboro Medical Complex,” he said. “Marlboro Family Practice and Urgent Care is growing with increased hours of operation, and additional services, including urgent care for those illnesses and injuries that are not life threatening but do require immediate care. I’ve heard from community members that they are excited about the addition of the facility and all the medical specialties that will be under one roof. I welcome any of my previous patients, as well as new patients, at Marlboro Family Practice and Urgent Care.”

Dr. Cain met his wife, Gail while serving on a missions trip to Hondouras. Eighteen months and a second missions trip later he and Gail were married. Together, the couple has five children ranging from age 22 to 31. In their spare time the couple enjoys hiking, canoeing and kayaking.
Dr. Cain joins Scotland Health Care System on December 15th on the opening day of the Marlboro Medical Complex. At this new state-of-the-art multi-specialty complex, patients will experience the excellent care that the Marlboro community expects and deserves. The Complex design streamlines the patient care process by reducing wait times, improving quality of care and ultimately increasing overall patient satisfaction.
Long-time Bennettsville physicians Doctors David Howell, Haynes Cain, Jadene Lowry, and Nurse Practitioners Gye Mitchell and Gail Cain together will enhance primary medical care and urgent medical care.
Office hours are 7 am to 6 pm Mondays through Thursdays and Fridays from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm. Appointments can be made for primary medical care; however, appointments are not necessary for urgent care services. Patients can continue to reach Marlboro Family Practice & Urgent Care at 843-454-0245.
On Jan. 5, these additional practices open in the new Marlboro Medical Complex:
— OrthoCarolina Scotland relocates from its current location at 209 Ball Park St., Bennettsville. Orthopedic Surgeons Doctors Paul Rush, Ralph Carter, and John Smid offer orthopedic care in their beautiful new clinic. — Marlboro Surgical Associates and Dr. Chi-Dai Chen also relocates from 209 Ball Park St. to the new Complex. Dr. Chen has provided general surgical care in Bennettsville since 2006 and just this past May joined Scotland Health Care System and opened Marlboro Surgical Associates. In his practice he provides general surgery and endoscopy consults, with surgeries and endoscopies performed at Scotland Memorial Hospital. — Scotland Regional Hospice also relocates its office to Marlboro Medical Complex. Formerly known as Hospice of Scotland County, they have recently changed their name to better reflect their scope of service outside of Scotland County. Hospice professionals and volunteers address the medical, social, emotional, and spiritual needs of the patient and family. The agency serves patients and families who live in Scotland, Robeson, Richmond and Hoke counties in North Carolina, and Marlboro, Dillon and Chesterfield counties in South Carolina. — Carolinas Laboratories will provide onsite laboratory testing.
An open house is planned at Marlboro Medical Complex for January 9, from 8:00 am to 11:00 am. From 8 am to 10 am, participants can partake of free health screenings which are funded by Scotland Memorial Foundation, enjoy breakfast items, and visit with exhibitors from local agencies and from Scotland Health Care System. The kids have not been left out; there’ll be plenty to entertain them during the morning, including representatives from the Fire Department, Police, Sheriff’s Department, and EMS, along with a bounce house, rock climbing wall, and train rides.
