Downtown Sip and Shop coming back this fall, as well as a Fall Fest

LAURINBURG — Downtown Laurinburg is set for more “Sip and Shop” events in the coming months.

The current dates set for the events are Oct. 7, Nov. 4 and Dec. 2 — each one from 5 to 8 p.m.

“Those participating downtown merchants will have their extended hours and will be offering tastings, treats and much more,” said Downtown Development Coordinator Daniel Walters. “We felt like the May Sip and Shop along with the previous ones were very successful so we wanted to be able to continue that in our downtown. Everyone seems to enjoy it from the people attending to the merchants so it seems like it’s been a big hit.”

Executive Director of the Laurinburg-Scotland County Area Chamber of Commerce Chris English added he’s excited for the event.

“These are fun events and we love how many people are coming downtown for them,” English said. “We’re hoping that by having these events it encourages not just people to come shop downtown but also for those merchants who might not be open to extending their hours and welcome more people into their businesses.”

Besides the Sip and Shop event, coming downtown this fall is the second Fall Fest, which will be held on Oct. 30 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

“We’ll have everything from a farmers market to craft vendors to super sales in the stores and trick-or-treating,” Walters said. “Last year was a big hit and since we don’t have as many restrictions this year we’re hoping more people will be able to come out and join us and help us continue to build this event.”

The whole idea of these events is to get people into downtown and help shop small to support the local small businesses as well as seeing the changes happening in downtown.

“We’ve done a lot in downtown recently and we want people to come downtown to see it,” Walters said. “These events give people another reason to get downtown and get into some of our local stores which doesn’t just help our downtown economy but our county economy as well.”
