LAURINBURG — Scotland County DSS held a contest with its staff over the last few weeks in hopes of helping feed members of the community. On Monday, DSS delivered the donated food to Church Community Services.

“Our A-Team, as we call it, planned a can goods collection for all of our staff to participate in,” said Director April Snead. “This group works to build morale within our building and this drive was just another way of doing that.”

Altogether, the crew was able to collect 1,544 cans to be donated to Church Community Services of Laurinburg.

“Our winning group was the Child Support Unit, who collected 637 cans, almost half of the total,” said Snead.

CCS is always accepting donations to help to continue in serving the community and the members in it. The food bank offers a variety of non-perishables as well as donated fresh vegetables and other items as they are available.

“We certainly appreciate the staff at DSS for doing this,” said Coordinator of Client Services Vince Bateman. “It is just unreal. And, they were able to collect all of this in just a few weeks.

“Our clients will certainly appreciate it,” added Bateman.

Church Community Services is located on South Gill Street in Laurinburg. For information on the services and opportunities it offers, visit its Facebook page or call 910-276-8330.

“We strive to help everyone we can,” said Bateman. “We are here for the people of Scotland County and every service or product we offer is free to those in need.”
