LAURINBURG — Scotland County Schools Public Information Officer Meredith Bounds was honored earlier this week at her final Board of Education meeting.

Bounds announced earlier in the month she has taken a position to be director of public relations for Hoke County Schools.

“When I first arrived here, she was so kind to me — it was un-mirrored and I know it’s because she loves Scotland County and she loves Scotland County Schools,” said Superintendent Takeda LeGrand. “While we’re sad to see her leave I’m excited she gets to express herself and set higher goals for herself.”

LeGrand added Bounds will be missed in the superintendent’s office, but reminded her Scotland County will always be waiting with open arms.

“She will always have a place here in Scotland County Schools, so it’s not a matter of if but when she’s ready to return home we’re only a phone call, email or application away,” LeGrand said. “I’m sure everyone in this district knows the work she does and she wears so many hats … if something needs to be done she’ll just pick up and go and get it done.”

Bounds shared her thanks with the board and allowing her to tell the stories that went on in Scotland County Schools.

“I’m excited about the challenge, I’m excited about the opportunity, Hoke County is a great place, I’m excited I still get to advocate for public education, because I think public education is by far superior to anything else we have out there,” Bounds said. “ I’m not moving, half my heart will still bleed plaid so I’ll just be cheering on from the sidelines.”

Bounds’ last day at Scotland County Schools will be Wednesday.
