Rotary planning litter cleanup on Saturday

McCook

LAURINBURG — The Rotary Club will conduct its second monthly litter cleanup on Saturday between 9 a.m. and noon.

“This month, we will clean up the area along Hwy. 401 Bypass north of Aberdeen Road,” said organizer Guy McCook.

Those who are able to assist are being asked to meet in the parking lot at Southeast Farm Equipment, located at 16220 Joy St. in Laurinburg, at 9 a.m.

“We will organize there and leave to begin the litter sweep by 9:15 and we should finish by noon,” McCook said. “We will have bags available and a few vests and pickup tools. If you have items of your own to bring, please do so.”

He added that there are some tips that can help those who participate in the cleanup:

• Use gloves for protection

• Wear bright colored clothing

• Wear long sleeve shirts and long pants to protect from briars and insects

• Tie hair back

• Use the buddy system

• Leave unknown or dangerous items where they are

• When bags are full, tie closed and place them in piles along the roadside

• Put bulky items alongside bags

“I look forward to seeing each of you this Saturday and please feel free to bring along family members or friends who may be willing to help,” McCook said.

Anyone who plans to attend should let McCook know ahead of time by sending an email to gmmcook@hastyrealty.com so that proper planning can be done.
