CHARLOTTE — Congressman Dan Bishop (NC-09) announced an investment award from the Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration to the Lumber River Council of Governments to increase broadband in the region.

“I commend Commerce for providing funds to assess broadband access in areas devastated by hurricanes. This investment in our community’s future bolsters economic attraction and retention for the Ninth District and will help our community continue to thrive,” said Rep. Bishop.

The award provides $64,000 to study areas that need further broadband infrastructure in Robeson, Bladen, Hoke, Richmond and Scotland counties. The information will be used to create a critical strategy to mitigate the effects of future natural disasters and to increase broadband development.
