LAURINBURG — While shops, hair salons and other businesses are beginning to open, there are still some out there that are not quite ready to begin allowing residents back through their doors. The Scotland County Memorial Library is among them.

“In the interest of public safety for both the patrons and library staff,” said Leon Gyles, “the Scotland County Memorial Library will not re-open until on Monday, June 1, at 9:30 a.m.”

“Due to phase two limitations, the library will be providing significantly reduced patron services and only allowing 15 patrons at a time in the building,” he added

Once the library does open, there will be new protocols and changes for residents visiting its book stacks.

“Patrons will be able to check out any available material within the building; however,” said Gyles. “We are asking all patrons to return material to the book drop due to the current 72-hour quarantine procedures in effect.

Many residents enjoy using the technology that the hospital offers as well as the services they provide but those too will be limited.

“We have reduced the number of computers available for public use and reservations are strongly recommended,” said Gyles. “Due to social distancing restrictions, we will be unable to provide one-on-one computer training. We also regret we will not be able to provide a location for tutors due to social distancing requirements.

“As the governor opens up the state for business, the library will continue to return to its normal service,” added Gyles.
