LAURINBURG – Several Laurinburg elders received an unexpected and early Mother’s Day surprise on Saturday. On a blissfully sunny day, Prime Ministry packaged and delivered gifts that recognized the immense contributions of mothers, and addressed current COVID-19 needs.
The recipients, referred by local community members, were greeted with a pink rose, a card and plenty of appreciation from Prime Ministry’s outreach team.
“Through prayer and God’s provision, we were blessed to give each mother a basket and bag containing 91% isopropyl alcohol, Clorox, one package of sanitizing wipes, two bottles of hand sanitizer, pairs of gloves, and face masks,” said Chris Pegues, executive director of Prime Ministry and a Laurinburg native.
Outreach team member and college student Sayidah Bennett stated: “We know it is difficult for some seniors to make it to the stores that have dedicated senior shopping hours.”
Prime Ministry’s team members believe God and a bit of persistence led them to specific retailers at just the right time.
“We began discussing what we could do with the hard-to-find supplies, and ultimately decided to give them to one of the groups of people we cherish most,” shared LaShonya McNeil. “The expressions on the mothers’ faces were priceless. A few informed us that the products were just what they needed.”
Pegues expressed, “Our team views service as a privilege. We were grateful to be in the presence of our elders and to tell them, thank you. I think our smiles were apparent through our face masks.
“James 2:14-17 guided our hearts and actions this Mother’s Day weekend. 2020 has quickly become a year to remember for numerous reasons, both good and not-so-good,” he continued. “We want to add more positivity to the list.”
Prime Ministry is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to encouraging believers to put God first in their lives and to reflect His light, love and compassion through service.
