LAURINBURG — Two additional people have been arrested in the on-going investigation after $900 was taken from the city of Laurinburg’s bank account to pay various personal bills.

Earlier this month, 23-year-old Devonnia Hines of Maxton and 28-year-old Courtney Harrington of Creed Road in Laurinburg were both arrested and charged on warrants for obtaining property by false pretenses charge.

Hines was arrested in Robeson County and given a $5,000 bond, while Harrington was arrested in Moore County and given a $1,500 bond.

The city reported to the Laurinburg Police Department in July that the finance and accounting department had found the bank account had been compromised.

According to the original police report, the transactions came over a two- to three-week time frame before the city found it and had the bank information changed. Investigators are still looking into how the bank information was obtained.

Police Detextive Jeremy White said there will be more arrests in the case, as five warrants had been taken out — two on local Laurinburg residents and three from neighboring Robeson County.

On Aug. 14 the first of the warrants was served on 45-year-old Novella McBride of Cooper Street for the fraudulent charges and was given a $5,000 bond.

Police are not releasing the names of the other individuals who have warrants out on them.
