LAURINBURG — Scotland Health named Holly Locklear as the DAISY Award honoree for the quarter.
Locklear is a nurse in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit, PACU, Department and was recently honored by hospital executives and her coworkers for her work ethic and compassion and for going out of her way to help her patients.
Locklear’s nomination stated she went above and beyond in this one particular instance to ensure the patient received adequate care and timely intervention by using all resources available. She ensured patient safety was maintained by being quick to recognize that a patient needed immediate intervention by the surgical team and needed to be taken to the Operating Room for a procedure.
The nominator stated she remained calm and collected while speaking with the patient’s entire care team and communicated effectively to provide excellent patient care.
“While this is not a one-time thing for her, she is an above average nurse and takes excellent care of her patients. This particular instance stood out in my mind and showed why she deserves the Daisy Award. She always assists her co-workers when in need, works overtime when needed, and comes in on her days off to help. She stayed several hours after her scheduled time to leave on this particular day to ensure the patient received the best care possible,” they stated.
At a presentation in front of her colleagues, she received a bouquet of daisies, a goodie bag, honeybuns to share with her department and a certificate commending her for being an “Extraordinary Nurse.”
The certificate reads: “In deep appreciation of all you do, who you are, and the incredibly meaningful difference you make in the lives of so many people.” He was also given a beautiful and meaningful sculpture called “A Healer’s Touch,” hand-carved by artists of the Shona Tribe of Zimbabwe, Africa.
Anyone can nominate an SHCS extraordinary nurse. Nomination forms are located throughout Scotland Memorial Hospital and can also be found online at scotlandhealth.org/daisy.
