LAURINBURG —After a week of filing for the upcoming municipal election, the town of Wagram has a candidate on the ballot.
Bernice M. Gorham filed for re-election as town commissioner for Wagram. There are three seats open for Wagram, with two being four-year terms and one being a two-year term. The two four-year positions will go to the candidates with the top two amount of votes with the third getting the two-year term.
Wagram’s mayor seat is also up for re-election, but no one has filed for the seat yet. Maxton also hasn’t had anyone file for mayor and East Laurinburg has not had anymore file for its town commissioner seats.
Like Gibson, the city of Laurinburg already has several people on the ballot for its council seats and mayoral seat.
Filing will run every weekday until July 19 at noon for the seats. Those wishing to run can file at the Board of Elections Office on Cronly Street from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Absentee by mail requests will begin on Oct. 6 with election day on Nov. 5. A photo ID is not required for this election.
Wagram town commissioners, three seats
— Incumbent Bernice M. Gorham. Gorham is a retired from Scotland County Schools and is a lifelong resident of Wagram.
“I’ve seen a lot of improvements since I’ve been in office,” Gorham said. “We’ve gotten a new city hall, a new recreation center, the Family Dollar and Dollar General. We’ve had a lot of big improvements and I’d like to continue to see more.”
East Laurinburg town commissioners, three seats
