LAURINBURG — Local businesses, entrepreneurs and volunteers were recognized for their contributions to the community during the Laurinburg/Scotland County Chamber of Commerce’s Annual Awards Ceremony held recently at Cypress Bends Vineyards.
Joe Bowen brought forth words of love for Scotland County at the head of the event.
“No matter where you’ve been, no matter where you’ve lived, Scotland County is Home,” Brown said. “We love Scotland County, we love Laurinburg.”
In addition to giving remarks about new members who have recently joined the Chamber, Margaret Dickerson, 2022 chair of the Chamber’s board, awarded Mary Sue Rabon the title of 2022 Volunteer of The Year. FCC was awarded 2022 Business of the Year and Wade S Dunbar was awarded 2022 Small Business of the Year.
The 2023 Dunbar-Mckoy Quality of Life Award was presented by Jack Ficklin to Colin McArthur.
“Laurinburg is a special place, it’s a community, it’s a village,” McArthur said. “Whether you believe it or not You’re raising somebody.”
McArthur spoke on wisdom and accepting wisdom.
“I’ve learned you never know who’s looking at you,” he said.
The 2023 Dormagen-McLean award was presented by Meg Johnson to Carson Buie. Carson was noted for her outstanding giving and willingness of time and effort and her accomplishments.
Leaders representing the Scotland County Commissioners, Laurinburg City Council, and past Chamber of Commerce chairs were recognized by Brown. Sponsors were also given thankful recognition. Thanks were given to Cypress Bend Vineyards for hosting. Ray McDaniel Provided the Catering and Decorations. Pastor Jerome Smith gave the Invocation.
Closing Remarks were made By Chamber Executive Director Chris English.
The 2023 Executive Committee are Chairman Paul Brooks, who gave remarks; Immediate Past Chair Margaret Dickerson; Treasurer Walt Jones, Sam Fulton, chair of Community Development; and Scott Johnson, chair of Industry.
