LAURINBURG —After a short break since the January meeting, the Scotland County Genealogical Society will be meeting on Monday, March 25.

The meeting will be at 7 p.m. at Scotland Musuem on X-Way Road, and the guest speaker that day will be Philip McRae.

“Mr. Edens loaned me a copy of The Laurinburg Exchange which contains the obituary for John F. McNair, which has a good summary of his life and family history,” McRae said. “We have unsuccessfully attempted to locate a family member to present his genealogy. Even though we’re still working on that project, a brief overview of his life might be a good foundation to precede such a program — if we ever have one.”

The program is expected to consist of a recapitulation of the obituary along with some observations about historical context. For example, he was a member of Company F of the 18th Regiment of North Carolina Troops during the War Between the States, and McRae will give a brief outline of its service.

During the preliminary portion of the meeting, an attempt will be made to reach a mutually agreeable date for a meeting of the officers and directors. This will be followed by giving Norma Jean Jones and other members of our brain trust a few moments to follow up on the last program.

Following the meeting on March 25, the genealogy group will meet again on May 18, when Mary Wayne Watson will present program at Temperance Hall on the subject of “Women’s Attitudes Toward Secession and the Civil War,” which will be followed by a light lunch next-door at the John Charles McNeill Home-place.
