LAURINBURG — A Maxton man was arrested and charged Thursday with numerous drug offenses by Laurinburg police.

Julio Ernesto Santana, 32, was taken into custody and placed in the Scotland County Detention Center under a $5 million secured bond in connection with the charges.

After a three-month investigation by the Laurinburg Police Department’s Gang Unit and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigations, Santana was arrested and charged with conspiracy to traffic heroin by sale (two counts), conspiracy to sell heroin (two counts), trafficking heroin by sale (two counts), sell heroin (two counts), possession with intent to sell/distribute heroin (four counts), possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, trafficking heroin by transportation (three counts), conspiracy to traffic heroin by possession (two counts), conspiracy to traffic heroin by transportation (two counts), maintaining a vehicle for a controlled substance (four counts), possession with intent to manufacture heroin (four counts), maintaining a dwelling for a controlled substance, felony possession of heroin (three counts) and trafficking heroin by possession (two counts).

According to a release by the Laurinburg Police Department, Santana will appear in the District Court of Scotland County on Monday.
