LAURINBURG — Over the past several months, City Manager Charles Nichols and County Manager Kevin Patterson have been peppered with questions concerning the issues of flooding and mosquitoes.

They will do it again Saturday, when they are the guests of the Scotland Democratic Women at the American Legion Post 50 headquarters on Atkinson Road in Laurinburg beginning at 10 a.m. It is open to the public.

The panel discussion will also include a representative of the N.C. Department of Transportation.

As far as flooded areas are concerned, Nichols said there really isn’t anything new to report.

“Not really,” he said. “We’re still in the same position working with the Corps of Engineers (on solutions for the future).”

Nichols added that there is one solution to the areas still under water, but it’s one that Mother Nature remains in charge of.

“We’re just hoping for an extended period of dry weather, so we can really start drying out,” he said. “That’s the best thing that could happen.”

Nichols went on to say there are no streets within the city limits that are closed or damaged because of the storms that swept through the region in September and October.

“We’re in good shape there,” he said.

Attempts to reach Patterson were not successful before press time.
