Break-in

LAURINBURG — A resident of Douglas Street reported to the police department on Thursday that sometime during the night someone had attempted to break into the residence by breaking the glass on the exterior door causing $25 in damages. No entry was made.

Larceny

LAURINBURG — An employee of Scotland County School’s bus garage reported to the police department on Thursday that while at Lowe’s someone had taken a $400 backpack leaf-blower that was attached to the back of the trailer.

Fraud

LAURINBURG — A resident of Plaza Terrace Circle reported to the police department on Thursday that someone had opened a Sprint cell phone account using his social security number in June 2018, but had not paid the bill. He had received a call Thursday trying to collect the over $4,000 over-due bill which was when he realized someone had opened the account in his name.

LAURINBURG — A resident of Pinewood Circle reported to the police department on Thursday that she had gotten a call from who she believed to be her grandson saying he had gotten into some trouble and needed bail money. The victim send a $41,000 money order to who she believed to be the bondsman, only to learn that her grandson was OK and not in jail.

Wanted

LAURINBURG — A police officer pulled over a vehicle on Roper Street Thursday for fictitious plates and inside the vehicle were two individuals with warrants on them.

Rashawn Covington, 28, of Clio had numerous warrants out for his arrest leading him to end up with three different bonds. The first warrants were for felony obtaining property by false pretenses, two counts felony breaking and entering, two counts of felony larceny after breaking and entering and felony possession of burglary tools. For those charges he received $40,000 bond.

He also had an order for arrest for failure to appear in superior court for felony breaking and entering and felony probation violation. He was given a $10,000 bond for those.

Lastly he was wanted by the McCall Police Department for an order for arrest for attempted murder. A fugitive warrant was obtained on him and he was given a $250,000 bond.

Randell Thomas, 28, of Myrtle Beach was also in the vehicle and was wanted for two orders for arrest for failure to appear. He was given a $100 bond for that but also has an order for arrest for true bill of indictment for felony uttering a forged instrument and obtaining property bu false pretense. He was given a $20,000 bond.

The driver was cited for fictitious plates.

Arrest

LAURINBURG — Dwayne Gilyard, 37, of Cardova, South Carolina, was arrested Thursday at the Scotland Memorial Hospital for being an absconder and wanted person. He was wanted in South Carolina for probation violation and failure to report he was a sex offender. He was given a $100,000 bond.
