LAURINBURG — Lowe’s Home Improvement in Laurinburg prepared to give away 500 Thanksgiving bags of food Tuesday evening, but the catering trucks ran into problems and never came as scheduled.
“We were disappointed, naturally, but the coordinator was adamant about giving the people something,” said Lowe’s Laurinburg store manager, Bruce Joyner.
The line of locals lined one side of the parking lot — locals who stood waiting for the promised Thanksgiving meals. When associates knew the caterers would not arrive, Joyner stated that Lowe’s bags with pies and $10 gift cards to Lowe’s were still handed out.
“We took down everyone’s email and phone number (and) we plan to send them $50 gift cards to a local grocery store like Food Lion so they can use it whenever they need,” said Joyner.
Joyner said other stores that had planned to give meals experienced the same mishap. He is working with the Lowe’s corporate office and hopes the gift cards will be ready within the week.
