LAURINBURG — Two men were arrested Thursday morning after a joint investigation between multiple entities. One of those men was wanted in connection with a murder in another county.

The Laurinburg Police Department partnered with the Scotland County Sheriff’s Office, the North Carolina Bureau of Investigation and the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department to apprehend two suspects who were wanted for various crimes.

At Highland Village in Laurinburg, officers moved in and were able to apprehend the two wanted individuals.

Everette Larry Campbell, 19, of North Main Street, was arrested for warrants out of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg area. The warrants were in connection to a murder and Campbell was charged with felony first-degree murder, felony possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, misdemeanor assault by pointing a gun and misdemeanor communicating threats.

He wasn’t given a bond and is waiting to be extradited to Charlotte.

The second male arrested was Christian Covington, 20, of Kinston Street, in connection to a shooting in Laurinburg. The shooting happened on Sept. 26, when police responded to Scotland Memorial Hospital after a 19-year-old had been shot in his shoulder.

Covington was charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury and discharge of a firearm in city limits. He was given a $20,000 bond.
