LAURINBURG — An Ellerbe woman was arrested after trying to cash stolen checks.

The Laurinburg Police Department were called to the State Employee Credit Union on Tuesday when a woman signed and tried to use checks that had been stolen.

Employees called the police after Kellie Russell, 37, of U.S. 22 North in Ellerbe, tried to cash them.

The checks had reportedly been taken from a Robeson County resident.

Russell was charged with forgery of instrument, forgery of endorsement, uttering a forged instrument, and obtaining property by false pretenses.

She was given a $20,000 bond.
