WAGRAM — For the second time in its three-year history, the Boneyard Bar-B-Q Grill in Wagram will host a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. The event is scheduled for Saturday from 10”30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

“My husband and I have both lost friends and family to cancer, so we thought this was a good idea,” said Joyce McMillan, who owns the restaurant with her husband George. “We enjoy doing things for the community here.”

In conjunction with its third anniversary, the Boneyard Bar-B-Q will offer free food — hot dogs, hamburgers, possibly party wings, chips and drinks — as long as they last Saturday for those wanting to come out and make a donation to the American Cancer Society.

“We will have a representative of the Cancer Society here, which is pretty exciting,” Joyce said.

For those who can’t attend Saturday’s event, a check can be mailed to: Catherine Reid, American Cancer Society, 2202 Wrightsville Ave., Wilmington, N.C. 28403.

The first and only other fundraiser for the American Cancer Society at the Boneyard Bar-B-Que Grill took place in 2016, when more than $1,000 was raised. This time around, the McMillan’s are hoping to exceed that.

“We would love to beat $1,000 again — maybe $1,500 at least,” Joyce said.

The Boneyard specializes in southern cuisine such as smoked ribs, pulled pork, fried chicken, pork chops, burgers, hot dogs, and a variety of side dishes including salads — and the entire menu will also be available for purchase on Saturday.

Boneyard Bar-B-Q Grill is located at 24520 Main St. in Wagram.

Also on Saturday, the McMillans will officially open the Good Samaritan Center, a facility that is attached to the Boneyard Bar-B-Q Grill but will be operated by the couple as a mentoring center as well as a myriad of other uses.

“This building used to be the town’s library, and it had fallen into disrepair — so it was included in our purchased of the other building,” Joyce said. “We wanted to renovate the old library portion, but it took a little time.”

Now, the 1,500-square-foot facility can be used for seminars and training, as well as be rented out by others for banquets, birthdays. luncheons, holiday celebrations, business meetings and more.
