LAURINBURG — A Laurinburg woman’s career as a car thief ended quickly when the driver ran afoul of authorities, police said.

Kahali Lakeshia Howard, 35, of Hall Street, was arrested for felony larceny of a motor vehicle Tuesday night after she was caught driving a car stolen from Scotland Motors, according to Capt. Chris Young.

“Our officer conducted a traffic stop on West Boulevard for no registration,” Young said. “The driver pulled into the parking lot at Walgreen’s, and the officer made contact with the driver at which time the female occupant of the car admitted that she had taken the care on a joy ride.”

Howard is accused of entering the lot at Scotland Motors on South Main Street around 9 p.m. and taking a 2015 Ford Focus.

Howard is being held at the Scotland County Detention Center under a $5,000 secured bond.
