Thief takes pizza, cash from delivery driver

LAURINBURG — Police are investigating the stickup of a pizza delivery driver by a masked man over the weekend.

Police received a call from a gas station on Main Street concerning a robbery at 10:28 p.m. Saturday, according to Assistant Police Chief Terry Chavis.

The 19-year-old-driver for Pizza Hut told police, “that he had been sent to 1405 Hickory Street to deliver a pizza.

When he arrived at the address and walked to the front door, he heard a voice from the side of the house say, ‘I’m over here,” Chavis said.

The driver walked to the side of the property where a man in a ski mask and red shirt pulled a gun on him and told him to “give me everything.”

The victim told police that he dropped his pizza bag and handed over his personal money and that of the restaurant. He ran back to his car, drove to the gas station and called police.

The thief got away with a pizza, warming bag, and an undisclosed amount of cash. Thetheif’s take was estimated at about $340, police said.

The only description of the assailant that the driver could provide to police was the man’s height: five feet six inches.

The detective division is investigating the incident.
