LAURINBURG — Laurinburg police say they have arrested a Massachusetts man on the run for an alleged murder in his home state.

Terrance Montgomery, of Springfield, Mass., was arrested in Laurinburg Tuesday morning in connection with a shooting death that took place on May 5 in Springfield.

The 23-year-old Montgomery was found on Covington Street after getting a tip from another law enforcement agency.

“We went to the location found him and apprehended him without incident,” said Capt. Chris Young.

According to digital news site, MassLive, Montgomery, shot and fatally wounded Paul Finegan at a birthday party for a three-year-old in the backyard of a home Pine Point neighborhood.

Finegan was transported to Baystate Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.

Investigators believe the two men knew each other.

Springfield police issued a fugitive from justice warrant for the apprehension of Montgomery.

Montgomery is expected to be charged with murder, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building and carrying a firearm without a license.

He is being held in the Scotland County Detention Center without bond awaiting extradition to Massachusetts.
