LAURINBURG — Police have arrested a man they say they caught in the process of breaking into cars at the College Plaza shopping center Friday evening.

Montriel Worth, 19, of Laurinburg, was arrested for charges related to breaking into at least three vehicles at the Cinema Twin, according to Assistant Police Chief Terry Chavis.

“Officers responded to a call about a black male wearing a tan shirt, jeans and tennis shoes and riding a bike going into several cars and checking car doors to see if they were unsecured,” Chavis said. “The officer arrived and observed a bike on the ground and a male leaning into a vehicle matching the description as if he was looking for something.”

The officer blocked the car with his cruiser and attempted to speak to Worth at which time a struggle ensued, according to the report.

Worth was arrested and charged with two counts of felony breaking and entering, resist delay and obstruct, and injury to personal property and given a $40,000 secured bond.

He is believed to have broken into and rifled through three vehicles in the parking lot. None of the owners reported anything missing, police said.
