LAURINBURG — Police say a Laurinburg man was arrested for reporting his car stolen.

Robert Minor, 37, of Caledonia Road, was arrested for filing a false report after he told police that someone stole his 2006 Mazda 6, according to Capt. Chris Young.

Minor called police at 5 a.m. Wednesday to report the car missing, but officers became suspicious shortly after they left the residence.

“The officers left and then they saw Mr. Minor leave,” Young said. “The vehicle was later located near Biggs Street and Tucker Street apartments. Mr. Minor was with the vehicle.”

Minor told officers that he reported the car stolen because a friend had borrowed it and wrecked it, and he did not want the friend to get in trouble.

There had been no reports of hit and run accidents as of Wednesday evening, according to Young.

Minor was given a $500 secured bond.
