LAURINBURG — Police are looking for the dirt on a plant thief who hit a local retailer Thursday night.

Employees of Piggly Wiggly on East Church Street returned to work at 7:20 a.m. Friday to find the plants missing.

The thorny situation arose when an employee accidentally left 20 rose bushes out in a sidewalk display overnight.

The thief stole all plants in two trips, according to Assistant Police Chief Terry Chavis.

“There’s video of the suspect in a white Buick showing the suspect putting 10 sets of flowers in the car at 10:43 p.m. The suspect came back at 12:56 a.m and took the remaining flowers.”

The car’s license plate had cardboard taped over it to obscure the tag, according to Chavis.

The plants were priced at 12.99 for a total of $260 worth of plants.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Laurinburg Police Department at 910-506-3169 or call 911.
