LAURINBURG — Police have arrested a Laurinburg teenager wanted for a shooting in late March.

Police had been searching for Darquise Woolridge, 18, of Oak Street since March 24 for a shooting on Wiley Circle, according to Patrol Captain Chris Young.

Woolridge was arrested on Friday at the Scotland County Probation office.

“We got call that he was at the probation office. We don’t know if he turned himself in or if he showed up for a meeting with his probation officer and the warrant on him showed up,” Young said.

Woolridge was listed as the suspect after detectives interviewed witnesses at the scene of the shooting.

Police responded to a call for shots fired at a home on Wiley Circle at 8 p.m. on March 24.

Witnesses at the scene told police that Justin McDowell, 17, had been transferred to Scotland Memorial Hospital with gunshot wounds to the stomach. McDowell was transferred to another hospital after he was stabilized and was released later.

Police have not released a motive in the shooting.

Woolridge was charged with one felony count each of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury with intent to kill, possession of a firearm by a felon and discharging a weapon in city limits. He was also given a probation violation for the warrants against him, Young said.

He was given a $1.22 million bond.

According to the state Department of Public Safety, Woolridge’s criminal record includes a felony conviction for inciting a riot in September 2017 and convictions for two misdemeanor counts of willful and wonton destruction of real property, one misdemeanor count of damage to property and one misdemeanor count of discharging a firearm into occupied property in February 2017. He was sentenced to 24 months supervised probation.

He has also been a suspect in other shootings, police said.
