LAURINBURG — Police have located man who went missing from a Laurinburg nursing home in February.

Laurinburg Police Department received a call on Thursday that George McArthur Twitty had been located in New Jersey, according to Assistant Police Chief Terry Chavis.

“We made contact with police in New Jersey and they went to the home and confirmed his identity Friday,” Chavis said.

Police do not know how Twitty came to be in New Jersey and say that until recently they had still been receiving tips that he was in Laurinburg.

Twitty went missing on Feb. 12, when the 51-year-old walked away from Willow Place Assisted Living at 1703 Stonewall Road prompting the Laurinburg Police Department and the NC Center for Missing Persons to issue a Silver Alert.

Twitty was believed to be suffering from dementia or another cognitive impairment and was considered endangered.

They had been given information that Twitty may have been trying to reach family in New York and contacted bus and train stations and airports in their efforts to locate Twitty.
