LAURINBURG — David and Tiffany Spencer have been singing together since they were teenagers and have turned their mutual love of music into a marriage and a ministry.

David has just released a new praise and worship CD titled “Praise Now.”

Music, especially praise and worship came naturally to David grew up as the son of a preacher.

“I used to sing with my siblings. My dad was a preacher, so when he would go preach somewhere, we would sing.”

David went to high school in Lumberton, where he met the girl who would become his wife, and the couple now live in Laurinburg with their two children.

“We were both in choir and we became friends, and we were always doing singing in the community,” David said. “That’s what we got used to, was that experience.”

From those early choir performances the two went on the earn degrees in music. David went into a different field eventually becoming the general manager of the Richmond Daily Journal. Tiffany became a music teacher, and is currently working at Springhill Middle School.

The two kept performing together, eventually forming a group and later a duo with several of their songs placing on the Nielsen top 200 chart. David’s song “Gonna Make It” is now approaching the top 100 mark.

The couple chose to perform gospel music not only due to their faith but because of their children.

“We kind of wanted to do stuff our kids could listen to, and we’re heavily involved in church, so we wanted to do positive stuff,” David said.

Tiffany sees another positive impact to the couple’s music, its effect on Christian marriages.

“It’s different and inspiring for them to see a husband and wife up there singing and worshiping together in worship,” she said.
