Inmate attacked with knife

LAURINBURG – A prison inmate was sent to the hospital following an attack Sunday.

The victim, Harris Emanuel Ford, 44, was transported to Scotland Memorial Hospital after he was seriously injured in a knife attack, according to Capt. Ruben Castellon chief detective of the Scotland County Sheriff’s Office.

The attack happened at around 4:30 p.m. at Scotland Correctional Institute on McGirt’s Bridge Road.

“It happened yesterday afternoon; Ford was attacked by an unknown inmate and sustained several lacerations to his face with some type of sharp homemade object and,” Castellon said.

Ford was found by guards after the incident.

The incident is still being investigated and detectives have accessed security video from the prison in hope of identifying the attacker.

Ford underwent surgery Sunday night and was still in the intensive care unit on Monday morning, according to Castellon.
