LAURINBURG – A Laurinburg man has been arrested in a sexual assault of a woman, according to the sheriff’s office.

James Vance Tyner Jr., 46, of Academy Road, was arrested for first-degree forcible rape and felonious assault inflicting serious bodily injury.

Deputies were called to a home on Sept 4 concerning an altercation.

A woman at the residence told deputies that she had been raped and physically assaulted.

Following an investigation, detectives arrested Tyner.

Tyner is being held in the Scotland County Detention Center with no bond because the offenses are related to domestic violence.

Tyner had been put on probation for a previous assault on the victim, and the victim had a standing Domestic Violence Protection Order, according to Capt. Ruben Castellon, chief detective of Scotland County Sheriff’s Office.

“He was put on probation in July of 2017 in New Hanover County for an assault against her,” Castellon said. “The New Hanover County probation officer is going to … revoke his probation status.”

The victim was taken to Scotland Memorial Hospital where she was treated and stabilized before being transported to another medical facility.

“Right now she is in stable condition, but because of the type of trauma she received they decided to transport her for further evaluation,” Castellon said.
