LAURINBURG – Members of the Laurinburg Pilot Club are launching an enhanced Brain Minders program.

Pilot members Linda Simmons and Ann Steinbrink attended the 2017 Pilot International Convention in Las Vegas and participated in workshops that included the enhanced Brain Minders program for children, youth, and older adults.

As part of the enhanced Brain Minders program Laurinburg pilots will have access to new puppets and scripts that will be presented to schools and senior living communities.

The curriculum is designed to be educational and entertaining and covers a broad span of brain health and safety topics. Topics for children include: personal fitness, playground safety, seat belt use, fire safety, bulling and more. For older adults, the topics are brain exercises and safety tips.

Brain Minders is a signature program of Pilot International and was introduced in 2001.

Pilot International is a community-based volunteer service organization founded in 1921 in Macon, GA on the principles of friendship and service. The club took its name from riverboat pilots “who represented leadership and guidance.” The club’s mission is to “Do More, Care More, and Be More.” Pilot Clubs provide financial and hands-on support for nation and local initiatives that align with its causes of youth development and leadership; brain safety and fitness; and caring for families in times of need.

The Pilot Club of Laurinburg is involved in several community projects including Alzheimer’s support group, volunteering at Concerned Citizens for the Homeless, stroke awareness, Vial of Life, Adopt a Classroom, and Patriotism Project.
