MAXTON — The Robeson County Sheriff’s Office today was questioning a “person of interest” in the shooting death of a 20-year-old man early Saturday morning.

According to a statement from sheriff’s Maj. Anthony Thompson, law enforcement officials were called to 2674 Red Hill Road in Maxton just after 4 a.m. and found Cory Allen Furr dead in the back yard of the home. He had been shot with a firearm of unknown caliber.

Furr, who lived at 149 Dawns Drive, Rowland, had exchanged fire with another man who had come to the residence, which is where Furr’s girlfriend’s lives, according to the statement. The statement said Furr had been living at the Red Hill Road home before recently moving out.

The statement did not provide the name of the girlfriend or the person who exchanged gunfire with Furr.
