LAURINBURG — The Longest Day fund raiser to support the Alzheimer’s Association is to be held Friday in the Morris Morgan Entertainment Center of Scotia Village, starting at 9 a.m. Bridge-at-the-Village is the host and this week is finalizing its plans for the day.

All bridge players in the area are invited to devote a few hours sometime during the day to play with their friends in support of this worthy cause. Play will continue into the evening, so those whose work prevents them from playing during the day can still plan to play for a few hours. Food will be available all day, as bridge players are renowned for their appetites and no day-long “bridgeathon” could overlook that.

Five dollars will be charged each player, but the hope is that many players will contribute more, as every penny raised will go to the Alzheimer’s Association.

The Alzheimer’s Association supports a wide-ranging set of activities. In addition to funding research within the medical world as well as studies involving its own members, the Association also lobbies for supportive legislation. For instance, it was instrumental in the movement that led in 2017 to the inclusion within Medicare of pay for care planning with a medical professional for people living with Alzheimer’s.

Duplicate bridge players need to know that master point awarding sessions will begin at 9 a.m., 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. Otherwise, play will start whenever a table of players arrives. Scheduling ahead of time will be helpful, but is not necessary. To schedule, call Mac Doubles, 910-277-7512.
