Otis Jackson Karnes, Jr., 87, of Chesapeake, Va., passed away on March 20, 2013, in Chesapeake.

He was born on June 2, 1925, in Mullens, W.V. to the late Otis J. Karnes and Beulah H. Karnes. He was raised in Roanoke, Va., and graduated from Jefferson Senior High School. He was a proud veteran of World War II and served in the Pacific on the battleship USS Iowa. He was an avid fan of big band music, the Redskins, the Atlanta Braves, and Duke basketball.

He was predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Elizabeth S. Karnes. He is survived by his daughter Martha K. Lowery of Chesapeake, two grandchildren: Allison E. Lowery of Austin, Texas and Scott M. Lowery and his wife Dr. Shana E. Harrington of Jacksonville, Fla., one niece, one nephew, and numerous family and friends locally and in Laurinburg.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, March 26, 2013, at 11 a.m. in Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Great Bridge Chapel is handling the arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to Deep Creek UMC or Parkinson’s Association.
