Betty Strickland, 65, of Maxton passed away suddenly on Thursday, Sept. 13, 2012 due to an automobile accident.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 16, 2012 at the Maxton First Assembly Church officiated by the Rev. Gary McMillan. Burial will follow in the Strickland Family Cemetery.

Betty was born in Robeson County on Jan. 9, 1947, daughter of the late Angus and Gertrude Clark Strickland. She was a devoted homemaker and a loving mother and grandmother. She enjoyed collecting Indian dolls and sharing time with family and friends.

She was preceded in death by sons Robert Dale Locklear and Timmy Ray Locklear, brothers Angus Strickland, Jr. and L.C. Strickland, sisters Irene Smiling and Annie Ruth Strickland, and her grandchildren Amanda Gail Smiling, Samantha Gail Smiling, and Joshua Smiling.

Betty is survived by her children, sons Rodney Harry Strickland and wife Linda of Maxton, Robin Locklear Smiling of Laurinburg, and Dale Locklear Jones and husband Jason of Laurinburg, sisters Loula Mae Smiling of Maxton and Janie Oxendine Maynor of Pembroke, seven grandchildren, her canine friend Cookie, and a host of family and friends.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Saturday, Sept.r 15, 2012 at Richard Boles Funeral Service.
