Devin Tate Gardner, 17, of Laurinburg passed away on Thursday afternoon, Sept. 13, 2012 in an automobile accident.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. on Monday at the First Baptist Church.

He is survived by his parents David and Sally Witmore Gardner, his grandmother Katie Witmore, his uncles Jim Gardner (Dawn), Kenny Gardner, and Gary Gardner (Ann), his aunts Ellen (J. R.) Best and Sylvia Witmore, and numerous cousins and their children.

Devin was born on Oct. 29, 1994 in Wilmington and attended Covington Street Elementary School, Spring Hill and Carver Middle Schools, and was a senior at Scotland High School. At an earlier age he was involved in Parks and Recreation T-ball, Coach Pitch, seventh and eighth grade soccer at Carver and ninth grade soccer at Scotland High. He also began as a member of the band in the sixth grade and played trumpet for four years. In the tenth grade he became the first bass guitar player in the concert band.

An active member of the First Baptist Church, Devin played for two years in the handbells. He loved animals and playing air soft. He also loved his friends and always treated them with respect.

The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. on Sunday at the McDougald Funeral Home and Crematorium and following the service at the First Baptist Church fellowship hall.
